First published in France, Michelle Balette's pilot for the coasts of Brazil is the first really comprehensive set of sailing directions. Over 250 harbours harbours and anchorages are described and illustrated by full colour photographs and plans, many of which are based on official Brazilian Navy charts.

Brazil is visited by increasing numbers of cruising yachts from every country and offers an alternative for Atlantic crossings. It provides obvious landfalls for yachts on the route north from South Africa and Cape Horn. The immensely varied country has a 3500 mile coastline wich embraces the Amazon basin in the north and in the south the estuary of the River Plate and offers a great range of destinations for cruising. Michel Balette describes the scenary and offers a concise guide to Brazil and its people and their customs.

Michel Balette discovered sailing and navigation whilst in the French Navy and during an early career as a merchant navy radio officer. On retirement, embarked on the sailing trip of a lifetime. Carried by the northeasterly trade winds, he visited Madeira, the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde Islands and Senegal and the Atlantic crossing led him to Brazil. This cruising guide is based on several years of sailing the coasts of Brazil which is now his country of adoption.
