The Ferry sector of the shipping industry has expanded on many fronts not least with the faster "High Speed Craft" but also with the largest vessel with increased passenger capacity. To meet this expansion new routes and developing shoreside facilities have risen to the challenge. New and existing ports around the U.K. are adding additional Ro-Ro berths, while the emerging market of China seems to have an insatiable appetite for any form of shipping activity.

There are many associated industries which have had a direct imput into the development and success of ferry transports, from the Naval Architect, the ship builder, entrepreneur shipping managers, seafarers, shippers, Classification Societies as well as many suppliers of marine equipment. The sector has also seen some consolidation amongst operators, wich is seemingly reinforcing economic growth in a post period following lost revenues from the demise of duty free sales within Europe and global fluctuation of fuel prices.

This text directed towards todays ferry operations in wich many thousands of persons work, either ashore or afloat. Its prime function being to associate managers, operators, maritime personnel and also potential passengers, with changing trends, new technologies and the legislation wich lie parallel to safe operations within this very active sector.
