There are a lot of new rules and regulations issued by IMO and Authorities in order to ensure safer shipping. However, safety at sea depends on many factors. The least but not last is good knowledge of professional maritime English.

Poor English is often the reason of various problems; a bad written contract or errors in Specification can be very costly. Waste of time during tests due to misunderstandings is still common situation. Crews have no chances to work safely with more and more complicated equipment having technical manuals written in ugly English. These are reasons BTJA published the DICTIONARY OF MARINE TECHNOLOGY

This publication provides maritime English lecturers and students with a vast portion of sound ship knowledge. First 37 units describe basic ship equipment and systems, giving possibility to learn modern technical terms. The remaining 16 readings are descriptions of existing ships, where terms presented in the previous chapters are used in real-life contexts.

The CD includes 37 units with exercises. Each unit can be printed out for practice. Over two hundred color photos and high quality drawings add to the instructive part of the publication, allowing the learner to understand and master professional maritime terminology.
